That’s a great analysis, Brigitte. I’d like to complement that with another angle I’m considering. If Beelzebub on some level represents some higher part of ourselves, our higher possibilities, our ideal, then at this point of our work we need to ‘regroup on Mars / HEC and get in touch with our passive side’. Something has been missing in the first and second descents as well as the Objective Science chapters: the feminine touch. Having made the required effort in Tikliamish, having done what we can do with the intellect, which clearly is going to be a lifelong process, we now need to bring a new dimension to our efforts (symbolized by uniting our active half with our passive half) as we begin the third descent and start work on our emotional side.
If form and reflection are taken as two different ways that the mind works, then they are more like two ends of the stick than something hierarchical or in competition. I took the query, āhow can we combat this in ourselves?ā as pertaining to human #1,2,3 because #4 still needs forms to base thoughts on (just as organizing your associations with form requires you to think).
That’s an intriguing idea and it makes sense that the driver, who resides at the level of Self-Remembering, emerges from the public house via the womb of Collected State. Maurice Nicoll had a relevant quote I wanted to share, from Volume 3 of his Commentaries: “Yet one does not climb up to the box simply by realizing one’s own nothingness but by a double and paradoxical process in which one has to make effort on the one side and yet know on the other side that one can do nothing without help.”
Brigitte, it’s great to hear from you and thank you for this. I recently noticed one particularly troublesome dog that I wanted to bring to heel. I decided that if this dog was indulged in when it by association appeared, then I would not eat dinner for an entire week. It turns out my desire for dinner was just the motivation needed!
If Earth symbolizes personality, then might it be likened to the many āIās in the carriage. Upper part of intellectual center may be driver waking from slumber through learning ABCs of Objective Science. Driver also in role of horse whisperer.

The planetary mind works with words and associations that synthesize into mentation by language or word. The Kesdjan body, made of a different substance, forms experiences and the mind of the Kesdjan body has brain cells that form images that relate to each other in mentation by form. Both the planetary and the Kesdjan minds are functioning in a subjective way relative to objective reason.
